Eagle Plains Exploration Project
Chance Oil and Gas Limited (Chance) is an early-stage exploration company with exploration permits in the Eagle Plains area of northern Yukon. The area is in the traditional territories of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, and in the primary and secondary use areas of the Gwich'in Tribal Council.
Chance plans to undertake an exploration project by drilling new wells, acquiring new seismic data and undertaking extended flow test of any discoveries. This project is planned to be small scale to minimize environmental impacts, foster the development of Yukon-based businesses and allow capacity for Yukon residents to obtain employment.
If the exploration work is successful, the development of local energy resources will help provide a secure supply, possibly reduce the cost of energy and reduce carbon emissions by displacing imported fuels that have higher emissions due to the long-distance supply lines and more energy-intensive extraction and processing requirements.
The company is engaging with territorial and First Nations governments to discuss the project’s opportunities and benefits to Yukoners. Chance is committed to sustainable development by maintaining the ecological values of the area and providing training and skills advancement opportunities.
