Chance Oil and Gas

Environmental Commitment

Minimal Ecological Footprint

Chance has a demonstrated track record of operating in an environmentally responsible manner. The company has been operating in the Eagle Plains region since 1994 and most travellers along the Dempster would not notice the environmental footprint of previous activities of Chance.

Chance is committed to being a responsible steward of the environment and believes that sustainable sources of energy should make up the future of energy supply. However, the reality is that many remote communities in the Yukon are not yet connected to the territory’s electrical grid and rely on carbon intensive fuels imported from suppliers outside the Yukon. There is an environmental advantage to developing oil and gas locally in the territory, reducing the high emissions footprint that comes from energy being transported in from the outside.

Chance plans to undertake an exploration project on a small scale to minimize environmental impacts. In addition to having a minimal ecological footprint, the small project size will foster capacity development among local suppliers and contractors to facilitate greater opportunity to participate in the project.

Approximately 30 percent of eagle plains and 60 percent of the chance permit area has been affected by natural wildfires
